Mark completed his undergraduate studies in Trinity College Dublin, during which he worked for three months on a research project in the McGouran group. He returned to the group in 2017 to undertake a PhD focusing on the development of modified oligonucleotides as activity based probes for DNA damage repair enzymes. These understudied enzymes play an important role in resistance to cancer therapy, and in certain developmental diseases.
